Wills & Inheritance Planning

Passing assets to your loved ones

When you have worked hard over a lifetime to build up your savings and assets, it is worth making sure that you are able to pass on as much as possible of it to your loved ones, rather than to the tax man by taking some time to think about Wills & Inheritance Planning.

Experienced team

Our experienced team will work with you to create a Will or a Lifetime Trust tailored to your individual circumstances and aims. This means we are able to offer cost effective and straightforward documents which will ensure that you will pass as much as possible on to your loved ones.

Effective tax planning can reduce IHT

Without any tax planning it is possible that 40% of your Estate can be subject to a tax charge.

However, there are several exemptions which enable the amount of tax due to be reduced but unfortunately, many families are unaware of this and so don’t make the most of the exemptions which apply to them.

Don’t leave it until it’s too late

Much like making a Will, many people simply find it very uncomfortable to even discuss the issue of inheritance tax and put off the discussions until the last moment.  When left to the eleventh hour, it can sometimes be too late to make much of a difference.

If you want to ensure as much of your assets and saving go to your loved ones rather than to HMRC, it is incredibly important to start talking about it and speak to a solicitor about creating a plan for your Estate via some Wills & Inheritance Planning.

Key Stages

The key stages when making a Will are outlined below.

  1. Preparing a draft of your Will based on your instructions and making any necessary amendments to the drafts;
  2. Preparing the final, approved Will ready for your signature;
  3. Attending the office / arranging signature in order to complete the final documents by signing; and
  4. Providing you with a copy and storing the original document in this firm’s strong room for safe keeping

Timescales

Wills on average take 3-4 weeks to complete, however the precise time taken is dependent on a number of different factors. These include: the clarity of the client’s instructions, the number of amendments required and whether there is involvement of any third parties e.g. accountants.

Emergency Wills

Although on average, most Wills take around 3-4 weeks to complete, situations do sometimes arise where a Will is required very quickly in an emergency situation. We can offer this service and are able to visit both hospitals, care homes and this is subject to a different pricing structure and would be quoted for at the time of enquiry.
